Hair and beauty equal self team
One of the main reasons that I wanted to write about hair, beauty and self team in this article is to shear positive thoughts that we all know, but forget to practice them every day of our life and we end it up doing nothing for ourselves.
When I was younger my mother gave me an advice that I will keep with me for the rest of my life and I will pass it to my kids one day. Whoever knows me know that I was a tomboy, in other words I played soccer, climbed trees, played with the guys, tried to catch butterflies, etc. I used to consider myself ugly because I always got scars, wore my ugly glasses frames and my famous ponytail. Like it is usual there is always somebody that envy you in school, work or group that at one point they make you feel UGLY. Even that we know that we are beautiful inside we know it is not going to be enough. I was crying because I felt so ugly, at some point I think there were the hormones. My Mom came to my rescue and listened to my odyssey, she calmly explained to me “There are no ugly women and men in the world, there are women and men that they don’t love/care about themselves and don’t do a thing for themselves”.
With the pass of the time I became a little more conscious about my beauty and care about it, because I LOVE ME.
Working with hair and make-up has opened my eyes more about how important is to take care and keep up with every part of the body. All these year I have participated in CLIENTS MAKE-OVERS for different occasions, for example: mother days, weddings, 40th - 50th- 60th birthdays, new jobs, new life, etc. and it is amazing to discover such a hidden beauty with simple and practical tips.
For hair: “Do something to it”! Get a professional hair color and cut. Add some highlights if you want to do something different. Please color clients don’t let your color go to long. Style it! If you do not have time, put it in a clean ponytail. If you like that messy ponytail look like in fashion magazines remember to do your make up. It is a big NO to do hair and make-up messy look at the same time. Clean ponytail=simple make-up. Messy-stylish-ponytail= fashion make-up. Remember Hair is the first visual for first impressions.
For face: Wear creams with SPF 15- 20 or 30. Get help if you have acne, trust me I had it. Use lip balm and gloss to give a fresh and healthy look to those pink/red lips. Shape your eyebrow, go to a professional they know what shape is good for your face. No more full wax eyebrow. No more tattoo eyebrow. If it doesn’t look natural it is a big NO. Please do your mustache! It is not acceptable for females at all.
For hands and feet: Would you like to shake dirty, dry and calluses hand. No! So please treat your hand. They are your work tools so get a manicure. Sandals season is coming get a pedicure.
Dress properly and modern: Read fashions magazines and articles that educate you. There is good fashion for all type of budgets. Look for it.
Remember beautiful hair and clean beauty gives you a lot self team and confidence. If you have a great color and cut you are going to be happy and make happy everybody around you. Your family sees it and they will appreciate that you take care of yourself. You own it to yourself to look good and feel good. Be the person that your kids look at when they want to find self teem and confidence within themselves. Make sure you surround yourself with positive and optimistic people. There is lot envy out there. True friends want the best for you and won’t let you feel bad and miserable. True friends won’t critised your defaults and mistakes, true friends find a smart way to make you realize the good and the bad without hurting you. My experience has shown me beautiful clients that let other people manipulate them and become somebody there are not. It does not happen just with teens, also happen with adults. In the other hand when you experience a horrible cut and color you are miserable and without realizing it you make miserable to the people you love. Please, don’t let that happen to you and to the ones you love the most. Find the time to spend taking care of you and you will see how little you needed to see some happiness.
Hair reflects what you are.
Hair is composed of strong structural protein called keratin. This is the same kind of protein that makes up the nails and the outer layer of skin. Hair is actually dead (non-living) material when it leaves its root .This concept is one of the reasons why, in the past people, did a lot to it and did not take care of it properly.
What I know as a professional, is that living or non-living things are exposed to different conditions, temperatures, chemicals and elements that affect and change its condition or performance. That’s why you are the main reason how your hair, nails, skin, body, eyes, etc. look right now.
Any cell or structure from your body can tell everything about you, like trees tell their age or the climate changes through their life. Another example is ice. Ice can tell the amount of carbon dioxide, nitrogen or oxygen in the past centuries or millenniums. The police and FBI use hair, nails and skin as evidence to solve crimes, because believe or not whatever, you do to your body is going to have a chemical record of it. Hair can tell who you are, how you live and what you go through.
Below the surface of the skin is the hair root, which is enclosed within a hair follicle. At the base of the hair follicle is the dermal papilla. The dermal papilla is fed by the bloodstream, which carries nourishment to produce new hair. Blood carries everything you eat, drink and take in. Many people come to the salon to look good and feel great. We give you the best of our work, and give you what you want. How it's up to you to keep it healthy, sexy, beautiful and shiny. We see you once a month or less, so we really do not have as much control of your hair as you do. That’s why I want to give you advice for a healthy you and beautiful hair.
Eat Healthy: It’s very important you drink a lot of water, take vitamins, and eat veggies, fruit, fish, meat, grains. In other words think healthy, act healthy, work healthy, eat healthy and live healthy. Also, exercise and breathe properly (it’s proven that breathing properly helps to fight diseases and stress). Treat yourself like a queen or king.
Try to stop smoking: Well, we all know that smoking is not good for you. Well, if you are gray or blond smoke makes you hair look dull and less shiny.
Use good products: Using products with high rate of alcohol damages and dries your hair. I recommend using shampoo, moisturizing and styling products rich in proteins and vitamins. When you use moisturizer apply it just on the ends for a good 5-10 minutes. Don’t ever leave conditioner in your hair unless it is leave-in conditioner. When you do that, you are closing the cuticle and the hair cannot breathe, causing breakage.
Use cold water for final rinse: Hot water opens the cuticle and won’t let the hair be silky and shiny. After you get a chemical process or just get your hair done request one minute of a cool rinse.
Do not use too much heat: Now you know hot/heat opens the cuticle, so try to blow dry/flat iron/ curling iron your hair less. Do not overheat/overdo one section of your hair otherwise you are provoking breakage. Attention Blondes: Be careful. Your hair does not have as much protein and structure in it. This is one of the main reason why your hair is sensitive to everything if you overdo it.
Attention color and perm clients: When you do a chemical service like highlights or perm. The hair take a minimum of two weeks to go back in shape, depending how much you have done with your hair. Make sure you use good treatments twice a week to prevent dryness, frizz and changes in the texture of your hair.
Everything you should know about Highlights.
A lot of times we get things done without knowing really what these are. I would like to introduce you to highlights in a way that you understand why, when, how you should get it done.
There are three main reasons to get Highlights: 1) to control red or orange undertones in dark brown to light brown hair especially when you want to go lighter and be in the golden family. 2) To get a brighter and soft look around your face. 3) To get a chic, fun and cool look.
There are so many colors, tones and shades of highlights. For blondes we have colors that go from yellow undertones to white/ash undertones for example: honey, butter, beige and platinum. For brunettes we have colors that go from orange undertones to yellow undertones for example: dark caramel, light caramel, chestnut and auburn. For red we have colors that go from violet undertones to yellow undertones Example: wine, eggplant, auburn, marigold, honey, light caramel and strawberry blond.
There are different looks. Chunky highlights for long hair are OUT and for short hair depending of the haircut and style still IN. Pieces highlights are thinner than chunky, Pieces looks good with short hair with layers, medium length with layers and long hair with layers (The layers are the key). Pieces add dimension and contrast to the hair. It is very important to know how to style your hair with these highlights. Natural or blended highlights are very fine; they look like sun-kisses. These types of highlights are for customers that like very natural looks.
How often you should do it? I recommend touching up every 10 to 14 weeks. If you do it to soon your hair will become to dry, porous and broken. If you leave a long time in between there is a chance that your colorist cannot pick up the same pieces and the old highlights get lost.
Every time you get you highlights ask for a reconstructive or protein treatment to balance the ph of the hair to prevent damage and frizz. The hair texture of you hair is going to take from 2 to 4 weeks to recover and go back to its normal shape. Remember this time is very critical, the way you take care of your hair is going to affect the condition of it. Perform moisturized treatments at home twice a week with products rich in protein, vitamin e, enzymes and aloe. Products like Logics DNA and Phyto Organics. Do not over blow dry/curling iron or flat iron your hair. Do cool rinse after shampoo. Do not use products that have a lot alcohol in it. Give your hair time to heal.
